Self-Service Model
Product / Concepts
The customer gets value without talking to you.
What It Means
Sign up, set up, pay, and solve your problem — all without a sales call or support ticket. Stripe, Figma, and Notion grew this way. The product sells itself and onboards itself.
Why It Matters
- Self-service scales cheaply. Human-touch sales does not.
- Users expect it. Friction kills conversion.
- It forces the product to be genuinely good — no salesperson to cover the gaps.
What It Requires
- A product simple enough to understand without explanation.
- Pricing visible and honest on the site.
- Onboarding that produces value in minutes, not weeks.
- Docs, examples, and in-app help that answer questions before they're asked.
When It Doesn't Fit
- Enterprise deals with procurement, security reviews, and custom terms.
- Complex products where the buyer isn't the user.
- Products where trust must be built human-to-human.
