Radical Transparency
Leadership / Advice · Updated Jul 2026
Share more than feels comfortable. It's almost always better than the alternative.
What It Means
- Share business context with the whole team: financials, strategy, challenges.
- Make decisions and their reasoning visible.
- Default to open. Only close when there's a real reason (legal, personal).
- Admit what you don't know.
Why It Works
- People make better decisions with more information.
- Rumour and speculation fill the void when information is withheld.
- Transparency builds trust. Secrecy erodes it.
- Adults can handle hard truths better than you think.
The Limits
Not everything should be shared:
- Personal information about individuals.
- Legal matters with confidentiality requirements.
- Decisions still in formation (share when ready, not half-baked).
The Test
Ask: "Why am I not sharing this?" If the answer is discomfort rather than a real reason, share it.
