Build Measure Learn Repeat
Product / Principles
The core loop of lean product development.
The Loop
- Build the smallest thing that tests a hypothesis.
- Measure how users actually behave.
- Learn what the data says about the hypothesis.
- Repeat — adjust or pivot.
Why It Matters
- Product ideas are hypotheses, not plans. They need testing.
- Speed of learning beats perfection of execution.
- Each loop should leave you more informed, not just busier.
How to Apply
- State the hypothesis before you build: "users will X because Y."
- Define what would prove you wrong. Be willing to accept that answer.
- Keep loops short — days or weeks, not quarters.
The Trap
Running the loop without learning. Teams often Build → Measure → Ship Anyway, skipping the only step that matters. If the data can't change your mind, you're not running the loop.
