Product-Market Fit
Product / Concepts
The moment your product is what a real market actually wants.
What It Means
Before fit: you push and nothing happens. After fit: usage grows on its own, users complain when it's down, and sales feel easy. Marc Andreessen's framing: the market pulls the product out of you.
Signals You Have It
- Organic growth outpaces paid acquisition.
- Retention curves flatten instead of decaying.
- Users refer others without being asked.
- You struggle to keep up with demand.
Signals You Don't
- Churn is high no matter how many features you add.
- Sales require heroic effort every time.
- Users nod politely but don't come back.
How to Apply
- Don't scale before fit. Growth spend on a leaky bucket burns cash.
- If you don't have fit, change the product, the market, or both.
- Measure fit ruthlessly — retention, referrals, willingness-to-pay surveys.
