Reward Well Those Who Serve Well
Leadership / Advice
Recognise and compensate the people who deliver. Don't take reliability for granted.
The Problem
High performers often get the least attention because they don't create problems. Leaders spend all their energy on underperformers and forget the people who carry the team.
What Happens When You Don't Reward Well
- Your best people leave. They have the most options.
- Remaining people learn that excellence isn't valued.
- Mediocrity becomes the norm.
How to Reward
- Compensation - Pay competitively. Don't make people negotiate for fair pay.
- Recognition - Public and specific. "You did X and it mattered because Y."
- Growth - New challenges, more responsibility, career advancement.
- Autonomy - Trust earns freedom. Give your best people more of it.
The Rule
Never let your best people feel invisible. Check in on them even when things are going well.
